Yes, the New Year means that our Quiltfest is coming faster than you think. The guild challenge is open to all members of Capital Quilters, and all members are encouraged to participate. This is an “ugly fabric” challenge. Have fun and tap into your creativity to show us your interpretation of the 2018 Quiltfest theme: Binding Friendship.
The Guild Challenge entries will be featured as its own display at Quiltfest. The entries will not be judged and there is no entry fee. Click here for a printable version of these guidelines.
You will receive two 2 1/2" strips which you are encouraged to use as or in the binding. If you’d rather not use the strips as binding, a significant portion of the challenge fabric must be used visibly on the front of the project. The challenge fabric strips will be available at guild meetings.
The piece must be finished with a binding. Unusual, creative, and artistic binding styles are encouraged
The quilt or piece may be any shape. Size: the edge lengths when added up must be between 40" and 80". A round quilt cannot have diameter >24”.
The entry must be a standard 3 layers: a top, a batting, a backing. And must be quilted. The piece may be hand or machine quilted, not tied.
Clothing, bags and household items are acceptable but they must fall within the size constraints when hung. Embellishments must be firmly attached
If you can’t make it to the meeting, or if you’d like to receive the strips before the next meeting, contact Jenny Yearous at firstname.lastname@example.org to make arrangements to get your ugly fabric strips.
